Evie Wright and
Nina Pizzo ended their careers with top times as the University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country team concluded its season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday.
The Titans tallied 840 points for 28th at the Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, Ohio. The 28th-place effort was the best by the red, white and blue since taking 28th in 2016.
Wright led the way at 22:06 for 140th, besting her previous low by nearly 28 seconds. It was also the 14th fastest 6k time in school history as she finished with four sub-23 minute 6k runs in her career.
Pizzo crossed the finish line 160th in 22:25, 17 seconds faster than her previous best at Bowling Green a few weeks ago, and is tied for the 25th fastest 6k in school history.
Junior
Claire Hunt ran 22:49 for 176th, nearly 38 seconds faster than her PR. Freshman
Sofia Figueroa shaved 36 seconds off her 6k and was 187th in a season-best 23:05, while sophomore
Helana Napiorkowski took 42 seconds off her best, clocking 23:08 for 190th.
Sophomore
Alaina Burns lowered her 6k time by more than one minute, registering a time of 23:25 for 203rd, and freshman
Kirsten Koss placed 216th in a season-low 23:51.
The Titan harriers will now get ready for the indoor track and field season.
