Tim Allos as Detroit Mercy saw its season come to an end with a hard-fought 3-1 setback to arch-rival Oakland in Metro Series action on Tuesday afternoon.
Detroit Mercy (3-10-4, 2-3-4 HL) came out aggressively, firing three shots on goal beginning in the 10th minute.
Oakland (8-6-2, 6-1-2 HL) was able to break through with a tally in the 21st minute and added another just eight minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. In the 37th minute, a Golden Grizzlies player was assessed a second yellow, which turned into a red card, forcing the team to play a man down the rest of the game.
UDM took advantage to open the second half with a counter as redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Quinn Tews threw the ball up to Copeland, who started a three-player attack, passing the ball to Allos. Allos touched it back to Copeland and broke to the right side, where Copeland then sent it back to him, where he slipped a pass over to a streaking Sylvain, who slid a shot past OU goalkeeper Alex Flowers, cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the 51st minute.
In the 74th minute, the Titans had a second yellow card, resulting in a red card so both teams were playing with 10 men. Oakland took advantage and connected on a breakaway goal to move ahead 3-1.
Detroit Mercy kept on fighting as sophomore
Drew Pierson sent a ball into the box off a free kick just in front of the right corner kick position in the 78th minute. The ball ended up to graduate student
Luke Winters, who connected on a terrific half-bicycle kick volley to score a goal, bringing the Titans within a goal at 3-2. However, the play was ruled offside, and the goal was disallowed.
The Titans continued to press the attack but could not connect on another tally.
