DETROIT (8/18/2024) -- The Titans struck first and reclaimed the lead in the middle of the opening period, but a second-half rally by Utah Valley spoiled the home opener as the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team was upended, 5-2, on Sunday night.
UDM (0-2-0) jumped in front, 1-0, just two minutes into the action as
Soraya Puerto-Khalil sent a shot on frame that was saved, but freshman
Amelia Streberger was right there to redirect it past the keeper.Â
Utah Valley (2-0-0) knotted it at 1-1 just two minutes later, and the game stayed that way until the 26th minute, when the Wolverines were called for a handball in the box. That set up a penalty kick that junior
Abbey Lodato knocked in to put the red, white, and blue back in front.
The Titans had the lead at the break, but Utah Valley - who beat Michigan on Thursday - tied it up just two minutes into the second half and added a few more markers afterward.
Silver played all 90 minutes and made nine saves in net.Â
Detroit Mercy will be back in action on Thursday as the Titans travel to SEC country to battle Kentucky.Â
