CLEVELAND (9-21-24) - Sophomore
Drew Pierson scored his first goal of the season while fellow sophomore
Clayton Lafayette added his first career goal as Detroit Mercy got off to a fast start but couldn't hold on as Cleveland State added two second-half goals for a 2-2 draw in #HLMSOC action on Saturday night at Krenzler Field.
"Tonight was a great Horizon League battle. Although we aren't satisfied with the draw, we are also very aware of the positives of road points in league play," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek. "We saw some excellent moments, especially in the first half, that we will learn from and push on to the next. We will rest up and prepare for Tuesday's quick turnaround at Notre Dame."
Detroit Mercy (1-5-1, 1-1 HL) got off to a fast start as Pierson scored off an assist from junior
Casey McCarthy just two minutes into the game.
The Titans were not done as Lafayette added another tally in the ninth minute from junior
Louis Simon's first career assist in a Titan uniform for a 2-0 lead.
Cleveland State (2-3-3, 0-1-1 HL) flipped the script in the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute followed by the equalizer in the 72nd minute to finish with a draw.
