BUFFALO, N.Y. (10/18/2025) -- Graduate senior
Nina Pizzo continues her best season with another milestone as the University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country team wrapped up the regular season with a third-place effort at the Canisius Alumni Classic on Saturday.
The Titans had two runners in the top 20, three in the top 25, and a host of personal records, totaling 93 points - just two shy of second - at the Delaware Park 5k course in Buffalo, New York.
Pizzo claimed third with a career-best 17:59, 21 seconds faster than her previous low, as she became just the seventh Titan in school history to break 18 minutes in the 5k. It was also the third-best time by a Titan at the event.

Helana Napiorkowski also had a big PR by nearly 30 seconds with a time of 18:47 for 16th, while senior
Claire Hunt posted a career-best 18:55 for 21st.
Junior
Alaina Burns ran a career-low 19:24 for 31st, and sophomore
Aubrey Mery posted a career time by over 40 seconds in taking 36th in 19:35 to round out the scoring five.
Senior
Ayva Schmalz placed 37th in 19:37, and freshman
Addie Stanley tallied a season-best 19:47 for 45th.
Detroit Mercy will now have two weeks of training before the Horizon League Championship, set for Nov. 1 at Purdue Fort Wayne.
