INDIANAPOLIS (10-25-25) - Junior
Drew Pierson connected on his team-best third penalty kick goal of the season, giving Detroit Mercy the lead, but the Titans could not hold on, dropping a 2-1 decision at IU Indy in #HLMSOC action on Saturday night at Michael Carroll Stadium.
"Tonight, we came up short on the road in an always tough conference battle," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek. "We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves and won't be victims at this time.
"We know what we need to do to finish out the season now, and we will put all our focus on finishing strong the right way. We are confident in this group in doing just that."
In the 39th minute of the first half, sophomore
Mano Karjian sent in a cross from the left side, which hit the hand of an IU Indy (5-7-3, 2-4-1 HL) defender, drawing a handball penalty. Pierson calmly stepped up and buried the ensuing penalty kick, giving UDM a 1-0 lead.
However, the lead didn't last for long as the Jags connected on a long shot for the equalizer with just 40 seconds left in the half.
Just 10 minutes into the second half, UDM had a golden opportunity to take the lead as redshirt junior
Zander Crooks fired a shot that IU Indy goalkeeper Cameron Maung-Maung made a diving save with the rebound deflecting off the right post, keeping the game tied.
IU Indy then got the game-winner off a penalty kick goal in the 84th minute.
Detroit Mercy travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a showdown with in-state rival Michigan on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m.
