Men's Basketball Adds To Talent Pool With Four Fall Signees

DETROIT (11/13/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team was able to secure some highly touted prospects from Detroit, the state of Michigan, and another Horizon League rival city in Indianapolis as the Titans announced the signings of four student-athletes for next season.

Joining the team next fall will be Keaton Aldridge Jr. (Indianapolis, Ind.), Greg Grays Jr. (Detroit, Mich.), Chance Houser (Detroit, Mich.), and James Martin (Muskegon, Mich.).

"We signed three of the top 10 players in the state and a top player out of Indianapolis," said head coach Mark Montgomery. "I like the talent and skills that each of the players will bring to the program, but they are all hard, blue-collar workers who continue to improve every day."

Keaton Aldridge Jr. * 6-4 * G * Indianapolis, Ind. * Cathedral
  • Has posted 13.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.0 steals in the last two seasons
  • A two-time All-City and All-Conference performer
  • Earned IBCA All-State last year after registering 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.4 steals, and that was after being named an IndyStar Super Sophomore and on the All-Indy Super Team High Honorable Mention as a sophomore
  • Was also a G2 Hoops Mac Jelks Invitational MVP over the summer

Coach Montgomery On Aldridge: "Keaton is a player with a lot of talent and can score the basketball in a number of ways. He plays in a tough, competitive league in Indy and that will help him get ready for the Horizon League."

Greg Grays Jr. * 6-2 * G * Detroit, Mich. * Brother Rice
  • Has scored 1,410 career points and averaged 21.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in his prep career
  • Tabbed First Team All-State as a junior after averaging 19.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, and was also Honorable Mention All-State as a sophomore
  • A three-time All-Conference performer who was also All-Area First Team as a junior and Second Team as a sophomore
  • His dad played two seasons at Penn State and transferred for his final two years at UDM, averaging 9.0 points on the 25-12 squad that made the NIT Final Four in 2001 and leading the team in scoring the following year at 17.8 a game

Coach Montgomery On Grays Jr.:
"Greg is a dynamic scorer who has taken his game to another level in the last year. He has been one of the top players in the state and comes from a great Titan family where both his mom and dad are graduates."

Chance Houser * 6-6 * F * Detroit, Mich. * Mumford
  • Was All-State Second Team last year, tallying 14.5 points and 5.7 rebounds a game
  • A two-time All-Conference honoree
  • Led Summit Academy to its first MHSAA D2 State Final game as a junior
  • Played AAU with The Family and was a top Midwest Riser, averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and shooting nearly 50.0% from the field

Coach Montgomery On Houser: "Chance continues to improve offensively and defensively every season and is coming off a great run to the state championship game. He is athletic and will help us on both ends of the court."

James Martin * 6-4 * G/F * Muskegon, Mich. * Muskegon
  • A three-time team captain who has averaged 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals
  • A two-time All-Conference honoree who was the team's Defensive Player of the Year last season
  • Helped his team to a 69-9 overall record, three conference titles, a pair of district and regional championships, and a state runner-up appearance in his three seasons

Coach Montgomery On Martin: "James is player who can play and defend multiple positions and he also comes from a great program that has a winning culture and mentality."
