"This was a great team performance against a quality opponent in one of the best soccer conferences in the country," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek. "We have a special group of young men who are buying into everything it takes to win at the college level. They enjoy competing together within training and against our opponents. We will continue to grow and improve from each game we play, and now shift our focus and get ready for another good opponent at MSU on Monday."
Pearson opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, giving Detroit Mercy (2-0-1) a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
After recording an assist during the last game against Mercyhurst, Lafayette added his first goal of the season in the 59th minute to seal the deal.
The defense stood tall the rest of the way, keeping Butler (1-2) off the board to uphold the Titans' third straight clean sheet.
Detroit Mercy's five-game swing continues with a Labor Day showdown at Michigan State on Monday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m.
