DETROIT (9/10/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team is coming off back-to-back Horizon League postseason appearances, and as the Titans get ready to make it three-straight years, they will have the luxury of a brand-new locker room.
In a ceremony on Aug. 27, the Titans thanked all the donors and parents who helped make the move a tremendous success.
"We are so proud of the team," said UDM President Donald B. Taylor. "I want to thank all the parents for all they have done. Jeff (Lanier) for being the catalyst to spearhead this project, but also Joann, Chuck Raeder, and Mark Misko. They have all been a catalyst for women's athletics here. Dave Fitch and all you have done. Naomi Khalil, Ryan Hill, Charles Robinson, and Dan Kennedy, thank you for making major donations to the room."
"When I toured the locker room a couple of weeks ago, I said this was a great model for what we want to renovate the other locker rooms to look like. We are really excited to have this space."
The new locker room features a larger space that's more conducive to player operations and collaboration. The project involved demolition, new painting and flooring, plumbing, new lockers, and a player's lounge area with seating, a beverage center, and LCD monitor.
"Thank you to all the donors and all those who contributed to the project," said head coach
Steve Shelton. "This is such a huge upgrade for our program. I know the entire team is so appreciative of the new locker room, and I can't say how much this means to our team."
The updated locker room is one of several projects currently underway in the athletics department. Calihan Hall is undergoing some interior renovations, which will include a new Titan Club room. The men's and women's golf teams are finishing up on an updated practice and locker facility. The strength and conditioning center has received new equipment in the past year, and the sports medicine department is getting ready to undergo an expansion and renovation.
"A lot is going on right now and there is so much to be proud of," said Director of Athletics
Robert C. Vowels, Jr. "We thank everyone for their support and loyalty to all these projects, but we have to keep going. This is just the start, and we need everyone on board to keep the momentum on an upward swing."
