Soraya Puerto-Khalil and
Abbey Lodato put on a show on Senior Night, combining for 11 total points with four goals and three assists to lead Detroit Mercy to an 8-0 thumping over Madonna to snap a five-game skid on Thursday night at Titan Field. Puerto-Khalil posted six points with a pair of goals and two assists, while Lodato added five points with two goals and an assist. Senior
Chantelle Symes also posted her second career shutout, making four saves. The win marked the first 8-0 win since the 2010 season when the Titans defeated Marygrove.
Junior
Jada Rivera also had a breakout game, posting five points with two goals and an assist, while sophomore
Camryn Pepper scored her first career goal. Sophomore
Sam Sickinger added her first goal of the season, with sophomore
Mya Mascaro notching an assist from her defensive position.
Lodato got the Titans on the board in the 10th minute off a feed from Puerto-Khalil, while Pepper added a goal six minutes later, giving UDM (2-6) a 2-0 lead.
In the 17th minute, junior
Natalia Sobh was taken down in the box, drawing a penalty kick. Lodato stepped up and buried her second penalty kick goal of the season, giving the Titans a 3-0 lead at the break.
Rivera opened scoring just 1:26 into the second half off a feed from Puerto-Khalil, followed by Sickinger's tally from Rivera at the 54:52 mark, giving UDM a 5-0 advantage.
Rivera struck again in the 67th minute off Mascro's feed, while Puerto-Khalil added two late goals in the 85th and 89th minutes to seal the deal.
Detroit Mercy opens #HWSOC play against Cleveland State at Titan Field on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 pm.
