"This was a tough day for us to open up Horizon League play, and it's always a battle in conference play, especially on the road," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek. "We have identified certain pillars of our program that need correction, and we will address them this week in preparation for our next match.
"It was a challenging week with the results, but the best part about sports is that we get another game next week," added Kopunek. "We will shelve this week and move forward as a program. This is a great group of young men, and we are confident we can rebound with the right mentality."
RMU (3-1-2, 1-0 HL) got on the board in the 11th minute. Detroit Mercy (3-3-1, 0-1 HL) had two shots on goal by Karjian and one by Pierson, but could not get the equalizer as the Titans trailed 1-0 at halftime.
The Colonials wasted little time taking a 2-0 lead just 2:52 minutes into the second half and added two more goals in the 72nd and 80th minutes.
Strickler's shot hit the post in the 84th minute, preventing UDM from getting on the board.
Detroit Mercy will host Green Bay for the Wreck It Like Beckett Gold Out game for childhood cancer awareness on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m.
