DETROIT (10-10-26) - Johnny Strickler posted his team-best sixth goal of the season, giving Detroit Mercy a 1-0 second-half lead. However, the Titans could not hold on in the second half, falling 6-1 to Wright State on Saturday night in #HLMSOC action at Titan Field.
The game was a stalemate for a majority of the first half until the 44th minute. Sophomore
Tom Nkassa ripped a shot that was blocked, followed by another blocked shot by freshman
Daniel Kadiu. The loose ball went directly to Strickler, who banged it home with just five seconds left in the half, giving the Titans (2-8-3, 1-4-1 HL) a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, WSU (4-6-2, 3-2-1 HL) got the equalizer in the 55th minute off a penalty kick. The Raiders then got two more goals in the 60th and 69th minutes to take a 3-1 lead. WSU added another goal in the 76th minute.
Detroit Mercy got two quality shots on goal in the 77th minute by junior
John Palomino and freshman
Nick Kamugunga, respectively, but they were saved, keeping the Titans from cutting into the deficit. UDM finished the half with five total shots on goal but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Raiders then added a pair of late tallies to close out the game.
Detroit Mercy hosts arch-rival Oakland in Metro Series action on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
