DEKLAB, Ill. (10-15-26) - After a scoreless first half, graduate student
Avery Mondoux came up clutch, netting two goals, propelling Detroit Mercy to a crucial 2-0 #HLWSOC win over Northern Illinois on a windy and rainy Thursday afternoon at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Freshman
Samantha Sackfield and sophomore
Brogan Hughes each recorded their first career assists, while senior
Eva Hill made four saves to lock down her fifth shutout of the season.
Detroit Mercy (4-8-2, 2-4-1 HL) and NIU (3-7-3, 2-4-1 HL) played to a first-half scoreless draw.
In the 75th minute, the Titans finally broke through as Sackfield flicked the ball into the box where Mondoux was able to take a touch, while shielding off a defender, and fire the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Mondoux then sealed the deal in the 79th minute as she took a feed from Hughes and connected on a long-range surgical strike into the right upper 90, securing UDM's first win over NIU since Nov. 8, 1996.
Detroit Mercy concludes their three-game road swing at IU Indy on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
