DETROIT (5/6/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball head coach
Mark Montgomery and the Titans have agreed to a contract extension that will keep coach Monty in the Motor City through the 2030-31 campaign.
"We believe in the program and the culture that coach Montgomery is establishing here at Detroit Mercy," said Director of Athletics
Robert C. Vowels, Jr.Â
"I am committed to building a championship program, culture, and identity here at Detroit Mercy," said coach Montgomery. "My staff and I are always going to work tirelessly to build this program, and we are going to win on and off the court, showing that true Titan pride!"
Coach Montgomery led the Titans to a 17-15 mark and an appearance in the Horizon League Championship game this season. It was the most wins since 2012-13, the first title game appearance since 2011-12, and the first winning record for a full season outside of the pandemic campaign since 2015-16.
He took over a program that won just one game in 2023-24, but led the team to eight wins in his first year and 17 this past season. The nine-win turnaround was top 20 in the nation this year.
The Titans had two players earn All-Horizon League honors this past year, as senior
Orlando Lovejoy was named First Team All-League, and sophomore
TJ Nadeau was selected to the Third Team. Redshirt freshman
Tyler Spratt was also tabbed to the All-Freshmen squad, while sophomore
Nate Johnson earned that recognition a year ago.Â
UDM is set to return six players from this year's team, giving the Titans the most returning points, rebounds, and assists out of all the conference schools.Â
