Titans Go Big With The Signing Of Tyler Owens

Tyler Owens will be bringing his size and skill to the Motor City

DETROIT (6/2/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team finalized its recruiting for the upcoming season with the signing of freshman Tyler Owens (Goshen, Ohio).

Owens is a 6-10, 230-lb forward from Goshen, Ohio, who just ended his prep career at Goshen High School and also suited up in AAU for the Phenom United (3SSB) on the adidas 3Stripes Select Basketball circuit.

"Tyler is a great student who has continued to gain size, strength, and skill in the last few years," said head coach Mark Montgomery. "He can help us on both ends of the court, especially as he continues to mature and develop his overall game."

After an injury limited his playing time as a junior, he returned to average 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks, shooting 57.4% from the field as a senior and earning Co-Player of the Year honors in the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference.

He was also named Special Mention on the All-Ohio Division III squad and First Team All-City Division III by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

This past season, he netted 20 or more points seven times, including a career-high 35 points on the road against Batavia, 31 points and 12 boards at Taft, and 22 points and a career-best 15 boards versus Wilmington.

Owens completes the 15-player roster for the 2025-26 season as he joins incoming freshmen Keaton Aldridge Jr. (Indianapolis, Ind.), Greg Grays Jr. (Detroit, Mich.), Chance Houser (Detroit, Mich.), and James Martin (Muskegon, Mich.), college transfers Jordan Briggs (Detroit Mich./Wayne State), Dante Favor (Canton, Mich./Spring Arbor), Elías Pálsson (Njardvik, Iceland/Augusta) and Vladyslav Semerych (Horishni Plavni, Ukraine/Indian Hills CC), and returners Ayden Carter, Je'kel Cotton, London Maiden, Xavier Istomin-Monroe, Tyler Spratt, and Lance Stone.
