SOUTH BEND, Ind. (9-15-26) - Graduate student Clayton Lafayette posted a shot on goal as Detroit Mercy fell 4-0 at No. 20 Notre Dame on Tuesday night at Alumni Field. The game was delayed in the 70th minute and was later called off due to lightning and rainy weather conditions in the area. 

Graduate student Zander Crooks and junior Johnny Strickler also recorded a shot each for the Titans (1-6-1).

Notre Dame (4-1-2) wasted little time taking a 1-0 lead just 41 seconds into the game. UDM's defense settled in and kept ND at bay until the 37th minute when the Irish got a second tally for a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Just 1:46 into the second half, the Luck of the Irish came to reality as graduate student Gio Covelli fired a clear attempt inside the box, where the ball deflected off Lim Evan's leg at point-blank range and went backwards into the net, giving ND a 3-0 lead.

After Notre Dame added another goal for a 4-0 advantage, UDM had its best chance to get on the board in the 65th minute as Lafayette got the ball in space just outside the box and fired a long-range strike to the low right side where the ND keeper made a diving save.

The game was then called five minutes later due to weather.

Detroit Mercy returns to Titan Field to resume #HLMSOC play against Purdue Fort Wayne on Homecoming Saturday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.
