Biography

2015-16: Ranked third on the team with nine wins in singles, all from the Titans’ top line… Tied for team-best 4-2 record in Horizon League play, all from No. 1 singles and against All-Horizon League selections… Ranked second on team with seven doubles wins… Won a pair of singles matches in the fall against UIC’s Mitch Granger and Depaul’s Alex Galoustian… Recorded victories of 6-1, 6-4 over UIC’s Carl Hedstrom and 1-6, 6-4, 10-5 over Green Bay’s Howard Scott, each of which was selected to First Team All-Horizon League honors… Also added wins over two Second Team All-HL members in Youngstown State’s Hugo Morth and Cleveland State’s Joe VanMeter… Teamed up with Nicholas Solarewicz to defeat Michigan State’s Mac Roy and Michael Dube 6-3 in doubles… A member of the Detroit Mercy Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

2014-15: Earned All-Horizon League Second Team accolades… Topped the team with 13 wins, virtually all at No. 1, and was 2-4 in the league play... Also posted 10 wins in doubles, mostly at No. 2, and went 3-3 in the HL... Beat Cleveland State’s No. 1 Joe VanMeter – an All-HL selection – twice with a 7-5, 6-4 tally in the HL quarterfinals as well as 6-4, 6-4 during the regular season… Defeated UIC’s Issac Lloveras, 6-3, 7-6 (3), 10-3, at No. 1... Took out Western Michigan’s Maik Steiner, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2, at No. 1… Nearly had a win against No. 123 Gijs Linders of Michigan State as he was up, 6-4, 4-3, when the match was called... Posted a 7-6 (3), 6-2, victory over Austin Blake of Mount St. Mary’s… His three wins in doubles in the HL were at No. 2 playing with Nathan Ponton as they defeated Green Bay’s Marius Merz and Florian Kraenzler, 6-4, Cleveland State’s Manuel Bellutti and Mirko Radosevic, 6-2, and Wright State’s Simon Cote and Dan Gilbert, 6-3...  Had the best record in the fall for the Titans going 6-2, including 4-1 in singles… Opened the fall with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 sweep against Ferris State’s Zachary Grabovic as well as two double wins playing alongside Ismail Kadyrov… A great run at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships winning all three of his qualifying singles matches to advance to the main draw… Took out Toledo’s Nicky Wong, 6-2, 6-1, Chicago State’s Sergiu Muresan, 7-5, 7-6 (2), and Billy Pecor of Notre Dame, 6-4, 6-2… Advanced to the main draw against No. 11 Tim Kopinski of Illinois falling, 0-6, 1-6… Also lost in the main draw of doubles with Chance Conley as the Titan tandem was upended by No. 27 Pecor and Alex Lawson of Notre Dame, 8-4… A member of the UDM Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

2013-14: Selected the Most Improved Player at the annual team banquet… The rookie tied for the team lead with 11 singles wins and led the Titans with 17 overall victories, playing mostly at No. 3 and No. 4… Was in the starting line-up right from the very start… Won his first five matches in the fall starting with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Michael FitzGerald of Wayne State and a 7-5, 6-1 win over Grand Valley State’s Billy Heckman… Posted two wins in Horizon League play in singles beating Dawoud Kabli of Youngstown State, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-6, and also cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Valparaiso’s Eric Honert, both at No. 3… Had three wins in the ITA Midwest Regional Qualifying Round to make the main draw as he downed Toledo’s Garrett Cona, 6-4, 6-1, DePaul’s Tim Corwin, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, and Cleveland State’s Manuel Bellutti, 6-3, 6-3… In doubles, he teamed with Bobby Cawood for five wins, including an 8-4 triumph at No. 3 against Youngstown State and an 8-4 tally over Green Bay, also at No. 3…  A member of the Detroit Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. 

Prior To Detroit: Starred overseas at Bullers Wood School in the United Kingdom… Came second in the country with Kent in U18 in 2011… Won several regional tours in the United Kingdom from 2009-2012… Reached the last round of qualifying in his first-ever “Futures Event” at the age of 16 in 2010…  Played with two other teammates who received Division I scholarships in Francis Sargeant of BYU and Paul Cook of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Personal: The son of Sylwia and Thomas Koscielski… Has two younger brothers…  List his biggest thrill in sports as watching Lech Poznan beat Manchester City, 3-1, in 2011…  A Software Engineering major.
