  • Started the season with two goals – both with the extra man attack – at Ohio State
  • Posted two goals and tied his career high with three ground balls against Michigan
  • Netted two goals versus Jacksonville and at Marquette
  • Registered a goal and an assist against Bellarmine, Manhattan, at Siena and versus Monmouth
  • Handed out a pair of assists at Quinnipiac

2016
  • Started all 12 games and was fourth on the team with a career-high 12 points, second on the team with a career-best seven assists and tied his career mark with seven goals, fifth on the squad
  • Fourth on the team with a .575 shots on goal percentage
  • Had two points or more on five occasions
  • Tied his career high with two assists at Mercer
  • Had a goal and an assist at #1/2 Notre Dame and followed that up with a goal, assist and a career-tying three ground balls versus Bellarmine
  • Tied his career high with a season-best two goals against #19/17 Marquette at the Midwest Classic
  • Posted a goal and two assists at Manhattan

2015
  • Appeared in all 14 games as a rookie
  • Finished sixth on the team with 12 points, fifth with five assists and tied for seventh tallying seven goals
  • Took 27 shots with 17 on goal for a .630 shots on goal percentage
  • Also corralled 11 ground balls and a caused turnover
  • Posted two goals and an assist in his collegiate debut in the victory over Ohio State
  • Would go on to earn the MAAC’s Rookie of the Week award following that performance
  • Added an assist at Michigan and picked up a season-high three ground balls against nationally-ranked Marquette
  • Recorded a goal and an assist at Bellarmine
  • Had a season-best two assists at Air Force

Prior To Detroit Mercy
  • A three-year letter winner in lacrosse as well as a two-year letter winner in football
  • Tabbed All-State, All-Catholic and All American as a senior and was also a finalist for the "Warrior Sports Michigan High School Player of the Year" award
  • Helped Catholic Central reach the state championship game
  • Had a great junior campaign topping all the midfielders on the team in goals
  • Played club with Team Total and led his squad to a title at the Pipe City Chicago Tournament and the Cherry Bomb Tournament, earning Offensive Team MVP at Pipe City
  • In football, he was Catholic Central’s starting quarterback as a senior and was named All-Catholic as he guided the squad to a runner-up effort in the state championship
 
Personal
  • Son of Lisa and Mike Birney
  • The younger brother of former three-time All-MAAC performer Mike Birney of the men's team and three-time All-ASun honoree Kylie Birney of the Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team
  • Also has another younger brother and a great grandfather and great uncle that attended the University
  • Chose Detroit Mercy because of its great academic reputation, close to home, and a chance to play DI lacrosse alongside his older brother and at the same university as his older sister
