2nd Annual Titan Club Basketball Camp For Special Needs

-2011special needs

The Titan Club, along with Detroit Titan Athletics, will host the 2nd annual Titan Club Basketball Camp for special needs players on Monday, June 25, 2012.  A collaborative effort of the booster club and Titan Athletics, this unique event provides a great opportunity for special needs athletes of all ability levels to learn and develop skills in a fun environment.  The 2012 event will take place at Calihan Hall. Registration will begin at 8:30 AM, and the camp will run from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Campers will receive basketball instruction, a tour of Calihan Hall, and will meet Detroit Titan NCAA Division I coaches and student-athletes. Any players 14 years of age and older may participate.  This camp is for persons with trainable mental impairment (TMI), educable mental impairment (EMI) & other developmental or physical disabilities.  Parents or guardians are welcome to stay on-site during the camp if they choose.

“The 2011 camp, held at Gesu Elementary, was a terrific experience for our participants, thanks to the collaboration of Titan basketball coaches, players, alumni and many great volunteers” said Titan Club President Brian Boyle. “For 2012, we expect to provide an even better experience with the camp taking place on Dick Vitale Court at historic Calihan Hall, the home of Titan Basketball.”

Registration for the special needs basketball camp costs just $15, which includes a camp T-shirt for the participant.  Fill out and return the registration form here to sign up a participant.

How to get involved:
Titan Club members and others who would like to help with the event can do so in a few ways.
• Sponsor a camper for as little as $15, to defray the costs for families who may need financial assistance.
• Volunteer at the event, in one of many needed capacities.  Return the volunteer registration form to Titan Athletics if you choose to sponsor or volunteer.
• Help spread the word by passing the camp flyer on to any families you know who have special needs athletes.
