THE UNIVERSITY OF DETROIT MERCY AND THE DETROIT SPORTS COMMISSION will host the nation’s top collegiate bowlers when the 2020 NCAA Bowling National Championships come to Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, MI, April 9-11. Since 1962, Thunderbowl has been the bowling center of choice for both pros and amateurs. With 90 total lanes, it’s the largest bowling center in the country.

The metro Detroit market is affectionately known as the "Bowling Capital of the World" because it boasts the largest concentration of United States Bowling Congress (USBC) members (more than 40,000) and USBC certified bowling centers (71). Detroiters are knowledgeable fans of the sport and ready-made to host the NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship for a record fifth-time.

The 2020 National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship will feature a 16-team double-elimination tournament. Seven conferences have been granted automatic qualification, and nine additional teams will be selected at-large (a total of 16 teams selected) and placed into the bracket. Selections for the 2020 National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship will be announced on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, via web stream on NCAA.com.

The championship playoff format involves four predetermined regional sites (Regions 1, 2, 3 and 4) with four teams assigned to each regional site. Regional competition will be conducted April 3-4, 2020. The four regional winners will advance to the final site.

Each match of the double-elimination tournament, other than the if-necessary regional final match and championship final match, will consist of teams competing in a best-of-three match format, bowled in the following order:

Five-person team match
Baker total pin fall
Best-of-seven Baker match play
