Mike Davis Jr.

Someone who knows head coach Mike Davis more than anyone, Mike Davis Jr. was named an assistant coach at Detroit Mercy in August of 2018 and just finished his fourth season on the sidelines in 2021-22.

He has been part of the turnaround for the Titans as the team posted their first winning season since 2015-16 and posted the most conference wins since 2012-13 in 2020-21 and had another winning year in conference play with a selection to The Basketball Classic postseason tournament in 2021-22.

Davis Jr. not only played for his dad at Indiana and UAB, but was also on the coaching staff for the last six years at Texas Southern. At TSU, the Davis duo helped build the Tigers into a perennial power in the SWAC and a staple in the postseason.

During his six seasons, Texas Southern won four regular season and conference tournament championships and appeared in four NCAA Tournaments with one NIT bid. In 2018, the Tigers won their first-ever NCAA Tournament game, defeating North Carolina Central in the First Four match-up.

He helped TSU student-athletes earn 11 All-League honors and five were selected SWAC Player of the Year, three Defensive Player of the Year, two Newcomer of the Year and one Freshmen of the Year accolades.

His first collegiate coaching job was at Chipola Junior College in 2011-12. Prior to that, he worked on the AAU circuit with the Alabama Ice as an assistant coach from 2010-12.

He started his college career at Blackhawk Community College as a freshman before transferring to Indiana. At Blackhawk CC, he was selected All-Conference and to the Region IV Second Team after posting 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, leading his team to a 16-12 record, which tied the best record in school history.

He transferred to Indiana the following year and redshirted and then went with his dad to UAB. After sitting out the first semester, he saw action in 17 games with four starts as a redshirt sophomore and had a career-best 11 points at Marshall and scored 10 points against SMU. He then played in all 34 games as a junior and 25 games as a senior

As a prep, he attended Bloomington North High School and Bridgton Academy (Maine). He led North in scoring with 16.5 ppg, while also averaging 7.0 rebounds in 2003 and was selected All-Conference twice. He was also teammates with future North Carolina signee Sean May and IU player Jared Jeffries as a freshman, helping the team to a state runner-up appearance. He still shares school record for three-pointers in a game with seven. At Bridgton, averaged 10.0 points per contest in 2003-04 prior to enrolling in junior college.

Davis Jr. earned his degree in Philosophy from UAB in 2010.
