The University of Detroit Mercy fencing program announced Michael Ramlow as the 13th head coach in program history in October of 2022.

He replaced Todd Dressell who retired after spending 23 years at the helm.

Year two under Ramlow saw freshman Nathan Mysiorek place eighth for the Titans at the 2024 Central Collegiate Fencing Championships hosted by Ohio State. Mysiorek went 3-3 in Pool #1 play to advance to the final eight bracket before falling to the top seed and eventual runner-up Luca Fioretto from Ohio State. He also posted four wins in the team competition. On the women's side at the 2024 Central Collegiate Fencing Championships, Hannah Benford finished a perfect 3-0 to lead Detroit Mercy to a 5-4 victory over Wayne State in the sabre competition.

In his first season, he led the men's team to an 11-5 victory over Northwestern at the Notre Dame DeCicco Duals. The women's team also claimed victory at Notre Dame, topping rival Wayne State 10-9.

"I am honored to be named the next head coach here at the University of Detroit Mercy," Ramlow said. "I have experience fencing against this program from my college career and they were always a challenging opponent and I hope to continue that."

Ramlow fenced collegiately at Wayne State University from 2008-2012 where he compiled a 119-119 record in the Foil and a 29-33 career mark in the Epee. In his final season, Ramlow made it to the NCAA Championships where he finished 24th in the Epee after beginning the year competing with the Foil.

Following his collegiate career, Ramlow began working with the Renaissance Fencing Club in 2017 as an assistant Sabre coach working alongside Dressell.

Ramlow is a 20 year fencing veteran with five years of professional coaching experience. He is well versed in all three fencing disciplines and was a USA Fencing referee from 2021-2022.
