Former Titan men's lacrosse standout Alex Maini will serve as a graduate assistant/Director of Lacrosse Operations for the 2017 season. He was an undergraduate assistant coach for the men's lacrosse team in 2015 and a volunteer coach with his alma mater in 2016 working with the offense in both years.
Maini was also an Operations Graduate Assistant in 2015-16 year, assisting the facility and event operations staff with all home events.
In his first year as a coach, he helped Detroit Mercy rank 13th in the nation in man-up offense (.451) in 2015 as well as second in man-up offense, scoring offense (9.93) and shot percentage (.286) and third in points per game (15.14) in the MAAC.
Maini left Detroit Mercy with 146 total points and 64 assists – both school records at the time - and was second with 82 goals, tied for third all-time in Titan history with 60 games played and third with 55 starts.
A team captain as a senior, he ended his collegiate career with a career-best 44 points - second on the team and tied for fifth in the MAAC. He tied for second at Detroit Mercy with 18 goals and led the squad with a school record 26 assists, fourth most in the conference. He was also second on the Titans and tied for second in the MAAC with seven man-up goals as he was part of an extra-man unit that broke North Carolina's 29-year old NCAA record in man-up offense efficiency (.586) as the red, white and blue completely dominated the mark scoring at a .708 clip, converting on 34-of-48 opportunities.
As a junior, he was tabbed Second Team All-MAAC at attack as he helped Detroit Mercy win its’ first-ever MAAC Championship and make a trip to the NCAA Tournament. In the NCAA Championship First Round match-up with No. 2 Notre Dame, he posted two goals and two assists as the Titans nearly upset the Fighting Irish.
Maini received his degree in Criminal Justice from Detroit Mercy in 2015 and is currently finishing his Master of Science in Intelligence Analysis.
