Zane Polack

Zane Polack was named Assistant Coach for the University of Detroit Mercy men’s soccer program in March 2024. Polack joined the Titans after serving as the Women’s Soccer Head Coach at Owens Community College.

Before Polack's second season in 2025, the men's soccer team earned the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award for the 2024-25 academic year with an impressive 3.67 overall GPA to qualify for the 11th time, earning the third-highest GPA among Division I men's soccer programs. During the campaign, the Titans secured wins over Mercyhurst, Butler, Chicago State, Green Bay, and Northern Kentucky, along with draws at No. 12 Dayton, against arch-rival Oakland, and Milwaukee. Team captain Drew Pierson was named to the #HLMSOC All-League First Team and received the Sportsmanship Award, while senior forward Guershom Sylvain garnered All-League Second Team honors. Pierson and John Nino were also named to the Valeo #HLMSOC All-Academic Team.

His first season, the Titans earned victories over Eastern Illinois, Milwaukee, and Wright State. along with four ties in #HLMSOC play. Detroit Mercy had four student-athletes earn #HLMSOC All-League Honors, as Drew Pierson was named to the #HLMSOC All-League Second Team, while also earning Valeo Horizon League All-Academic Team honors. Guershom Sylvain and Josh Copeland both landed All-League Third Team honors, while Luke Winters was a finalist for the Horizon League Sportsmanship Award. Also earning All-Academic Team honors was Casey McCarthy. Copeland was also drafted by the Colorado Rapids with the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to be drafted in the first round, and the second to be drafted, following Adam Bedell, who was taken in the third round (45th pick overall) by the Columbus Crew in 2014. 
 
Polack was actively responsible for rebuilding the Owens women’s soccer program for the 2023 season by recruiting a 15-player roster and hiring two assistant coaches within a six-week time frame when Owens Community College, a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), reinstated the program for the first time since 2016.
 
Polack also serves as a Director and Head Coach at the Nationals Soccer Club of the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) where he coaches and manages operations for the U13 – U19 boy’s soccer teams.
 
Additionally, Polack spent time as a coach at the semi-professional level for Nationals and Detroit Union Soccer Club, members of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL).
 
A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Polack played professional soccer for the Detroit Waza Flo of the Major Arena Soccer League where he made 100 appearances from 2011-2015.
 
Polack earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Gannon University in 2010 where he was a student-athlete on the men’s soccer team for two seasons. Prior to Gannon, Polack attended Owens Community College where he also was a student-athlete on the men’s soccer team for two seasons.
 
Polack lives in metro Detroit with his wife, Krystle, and children, Aubrey, Dylan, Ivy and Zoey.
