A familiar face is back to help the Titan men’s tennis team this year as Cesar Escobar Serrano will serve as an assistant coach for the men's program for the 2014-15 season. Serrano was a student volunteer coach last year assisting with both the men's and women's teams.

The four-year letter winner for Detroit from 2009-13, Serrano left the program as the school record holder with 59 singles wins as well as seventh in school history with 32 doubles victories.

Serrano had an instant impact right from the start as he was tabbed Second Team All-Horizon League as a freshman, the first freshman in school history to earn All-Conference accolades. He was the team’s Newcomer of the Year that season and finished the year fourth on the squad with 11 singles wins - despite starting his collegiate career in January - and was 6-1 in the Horizon League.

His 20 singles triumphs as a junior is third in school history, while the 16 he posted as a sophomore ranks sixth.

He was also a member of the Detroit Athletic Director’s Honor roll as a sophomore and senior and graduated with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2014.
