2015-16: Tied for the team lead with eight doubles wins, mostly from the second and third doubles positions… Added five singles wins in limited singles play and finished the season with a 5-3 mark... Teamed with Chance Conley to win 6-4 over No. 37 Notre Dame’s Drew Dawson and Daniel Rayl… The duo of Conley and Mertz began the season 5-0 in doubles and won six of their first seven matches together, including victories over Notre Dame, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Northern Illinois, Ball State, Michigan State and Wayne State… A Detroit Mercy Athletic Director’s Honor Roll selection.
Prior to Detroit: A four-year varsity letter winner at North Farmington… As a senior, he posted a 24-3 overall record in the top position, earning All-State for the third-straight season… A two-year captain, he was a state semifinalist at No. 1 as a senior and was a four-time regional champion… Also a three-time Scholar Athlete and a member of the National Honor Society… Listed as a three-star prospect as well as ranked as one of the top 50 players in the Great Lakes and No. 7 in the state of Michigan by TennisRecruiting.net.
