Carrie Banks

Former University of Detroit Mercy player Carrie Banks returned to Detroit last year as she was hired as an assistant coach by UDM head women’s basketball coach and former teammate, Autumn Rademacher. Banks played for Detroit from 1996-00.

“I am proud to welcome back Carrie Banks to the University of Detroit Mercy,” said Rademacher. “Carrie is a well-respected member of the 1997 Horizon League Championship team and she went on to have an excellent playing career.”

As a player, Banks earned All-MCC First Team honors senior season and was named to the second team the previous year. In addition, she was a three-time conference all-defensive team honoree, beginning her sophomore season. Banks is is the first Titan to ever record a triple-double (R-P-A), a feat she achieved on three separate occasions during her career.

In addition to her assistant coaching duties, Banks will serve as the recruiting coordinator for the Titan women’s basketball program.
Banks came to Detroit after pursuing her master’s degree in journalism at Kent State University. While at KSU, Banks worked as a freelance reporter for the Big Ten Network and was also a color analyst for women’s college basketball.

While in Ohio, Banks coached girls AAU basketball for four seasons and was also the junior varsity head women’s basketball coach at Dublin Jerome High School from 2004-06.

“Carrie has experience coaching AAU teams, has great communication skills and brings extensive Ohio recruiting ties,” stated Rademacher. “I could not be more excited about working along side with Carrie once again.”

Banks continued her playing career after UDM professionally overseas for Grupo Desportivo Bolacesto in V.N. Gaia, Portugal, from 2000-01.
Banks graduated from UDM in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
