Former Titan Dominica Whittaker is in her second year with the team as a graduate assistant coach. She assists the program in directing basketball operations including duties such as travel arrangements, assisting in on-campus recruiting and office administrative tasks.
“I am so thankful to have Dominica Whittaker back to be our graduate assistant,” said Rademacher. “She is extremely bright, organized, and assertive. As a former Titan, she knows our system and what our expectations are for the program so she is the perfect fit for the position.”
No stranger to the program and to coach Rademacher’s staff, Whittaker spent two years (2009-11) as a graduate manager for the team, which came on the heels of her four-year playing career at UDM.
In her role as graduate manager, Whittaker helped the team in practice and game preparation as well as fulfilling various duties as the team’s traveling manager. She also was a color commentator for a number of women’s basketball broadcasts on the Horizon League Network.
On the court, Whittaker appeared in 82 games with 12 starts in her four years from 2005-09. She posted career highs with eight points and seven rebounds against Loyola as a senior. She was also tabbed to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll multiple times in her career. She served as President of SAAC during her senior year, and was selected by the NCAA to attend the annual Leadership and Development Conference for SAAC in Orlando, FL. She also received the Horizon League Community Service Award (2009).
She came to Detroit from Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in Mississauga, ON, where she lettered in basketball and volleyball. She helped lead her team to a ROPSSAA Tier II Championship in 2002 in basketball. She also worked the summer basketball camp of NBA All-Star and Olympic gold medalist Vince Carter the summer before her senior season. Whittaker has been a longtime active volunteer for various community organizations, such as Power Basketball Camp, and Canadian Tire Jumpstart.
She graduated from Detroit with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and a Women and Gender Studies minor in 2009. Currently she is working on her master’s thesis from UDM in Intelligence Analysis.
