Elysia Mattos

Elysia Mattos joined the women’s basketball staff as a graduate assistant in July 2023 after spending three seasons as a women’s basketball student-athlete at Rochester University in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Her second year on the coaching staff saw the Titans go 15-15 overall and 8-12 in the Horizon League, including an 11-5 mark at home. Detroit Mercy earned a No. 6 seed in the Barbasol Horizon League Championship, and earned a First Round victory over No. 11 Milwaukee inside Calihan Hall. The Titans had three players earn All-Horizon League honors, as Aaliyah McQueen and Emaia O'Brien were named to the Third Team, and Kailey Starks was named to the All-Freshman team. 

In her first year on the staff, the Titans finished 17-16 overall and won their first #HLWBB Tournament game since 2016-17 after defeating Robert Morris 59-48. Detroit Mercy saw their season come to an end in the #HLWBB Quarterfinals following a loss to Purdue Fort Wayne. Both Irene Murua and Paris Gilmore earned Horizon League honors, with Murua being named Third Team All-Conference and Gilmore being named to the All-Freshman team. 

During her career as a player, Mattos started in 71 of 73 total games played finishing as Rochester's All-Time Assist Leader (356) while helping the Warriors earn three National Tournament appearances.

During the 2022-2023 season, Mattos saw action in 26 games with 24 starts averaging 9.7 points per game along with 4.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals earning All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Second-Team honors.

In 2021-2022, Mattos started in all 30 games played while leading the team in assists (179) and ranking second in the conference (100). She shot 46.3% from the field, 37.8% from 3-point range, and 75% from the free throw line while recording 138 rebounds, 66 steals, and three blocks. 

Mattos also served on the coaching staff with the 2025 Michigan Mystics AAU Team while helping organize summer camps with PGC basketball and LNBC basketball.

Mattos earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Leadership from Rochester University in 2023. She is the daughter of Karen Mattos and Mike Unger and has two siblings, Juliana and Dominic.
