Katie Solner, a former player with the Titans, is entering her second year as a graduate assistant for head coach Autumn Rademacher’s program.

“Fate struck last year when I bumped into Katie Solner in the Calihan Hall parking lot and found out that she was interested in pursuing a career in coaching,” said Rademacher. “At that moment, I was searching for a graduate assistant and after meeting with her briefly I knew she was the perfect choice for the position.”

Solner played for Detroit from 2002-06 and is one of 16 Titans in the 1,000 point club as she ended her career with a total of 1,038. Her name can be found in Detroit’s annals several times, including sitting first in the season 3-point field goal percentage category (.516). During the 2002-03 campaign, Solner led the Titans with a free throw percentage of .810 (47-of-58), which is seventh in Detroit’s record books. On the career side, Solner’s name is found five times, including seventh in assists (348).

Solner was awarded for her performance during the conference championship her freshman and sophomore yeas as she was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team both seasons. In addition, Solner was on the Horizon League Honor Roll all four years while at UDM.

Since graduation, Solner has worked at MARS advertising and moved through the ranks to end as a Media Planner.

“With her excellent reputation as a player and a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I know she will do a tremendous job for the Detroit Titan women’s basketball program,” added Rademacher.

Solner graduated from Detroit in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and plans to get a certification in elementary education.
