Nicole "Colie" Shelwick was named Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Detroit Mercy women’s basketball team in June 2022 after spending the 2021-22 season as an Assistant Coach on Achter’s staff at Loyola Chicago.
Shelwick was promoted to Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator in July 2023.
Under Shelwick's guidance during the 2022-23 campaign, the women's hoops squad increased their win total by four games beginning with a win over Canisius which snapped a 24-game home court losing skid. The Titans also secured a series sweep over Robert Morris in #HLWBB play and also upset defending league champion IUPUI for the first time in program history. Additionally,
Amaya Burch (the coaching staff's first recruit) earned All-Freshman Team honors after scoring in double-figures 12 times while grabbing 10 boards or more in three games. She also led the team in 3-pointers made (29) while ranking second with three double-doubles and third in rebounds per game (4.7).
In her lone season at Loyola during the 2021-22 campaign, Shelwick helped guide the Ramblers to a 18-12 record, which was the highest win total since the 1988-89 season, and a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) quarterfinal birth. Shelwick also served at the team’s defensive coordinator helping the squad finish in the top-40 nationally in three NCAA defensive categories including 3-point field goal defense (12th), scoring defense (25th) and field goal percentage defense (37th). Under her guidance, two student-athletes earned MVC All-Conference honors in Allison Day and Freshman of the Year Maya Chandler.
Prior to Loyola, Shelwick spent four seasons (2017-21) as the Head Coach for the Indiana University Kokomo women’s basketball team leading the squad to a 54-41 overall record. She led the Cougars to a River States Conference (RSC) West Division title in 2018-19, two postseason appearances and a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents. Shelwick oversaw the development of seven All-RSC selections, including National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American Deja Felder. Her teams also excelled in the classroom with a perfect graduation rate in addition to a 93 percent retention mark.
In addition to her head coaching duties at IU Kokomo, Shelwick also served in an administrative role as Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Women’s Administrator with responsibilities that included oversight of all Title IX and diversity and inclusion initiatives for the department.
Prior to IU Kokomo, Shelwick served as Head Coach at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass. during the 2016-17 season where she guided the Warriors to an 11-11 overall mark, a runner-up finish in the Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) Tournament and an appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 21 semifinals.
During the 2015-16 season, Shelwick served as the Head Coach at the College of St. Elizabeth when she led the team to 10 conference wins after being hired a just 15 days prior to the start of the season and helped Ashley Pledger earn second-team all-conference honors.
Shelwick also served as an Assistant Coach at the University of Arkansas at Monticello during the 2014-15 campaign where she helped guide the team to their first winning season since 2008-09 followed by the program’s first ever postseason tournament game win since joining the Great American Conference (GAC). She also developed DII All-American Jordan Goforth.
Shelwick also spent two seasons (2012-14) at Central Methodist University and was promoted from Graduate Assistant to Assistant Coach after one season where she helped guide the Eagles to its best start in program history at 16-1. The team went on to defeat three top-25 opponents, in addition to NCAA Division I foe Chicago State, to earn a No. 17 national ranking and receive the program’s first ever NAIA National Tournament bid.
Shelwick earned a Master of Education and Administration Degree from Central Methodist in 2014. She was two-sport athlete during her collegiate years at Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss. where she earned a Bachelor of Art Degree in Communication in 2010.
Shelwick has two sons, Jacobi and Jacori.
