Tyler Cleverly

Tyler Cleverly just ended his first year on the sidelines for the Detroit women’s basketball program in 2014-15 as he joined the staff in late June.

Coach Cleverly comes to Detroit from Florida State, where he spent the last seven years as the Seminoles’ video coordinator. His expertise in video and scouting dates all the way back to his time with the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever.

At FSU, Coach Cleverly was responsible for the entire film breakdown for Florida State and its’ opponents. He oversaw a multi-million dollar video room and through his work with XOS video editing software, coaches and players were able to review games and practices almost immediately after their conclusion.  He also assisted in all of the Seminoles’ team camps.

With Florida State, Coach Cleverly aided a program that posted five 20-win seasons in his seven years and made six trips to the NCAA Tournament, with FSU advancing all the way to the Elite Eight in 2010. During his time in Tallahassee, he helped mentor five student athletes who went on to play in the WNBA, including the sixth overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft Jacinta Monroe and the fifth overall pick in 2014 Natasha Howard.

Before Florida State, Coach Cleverly worked as a video intern for both the Pacers and Fever. With both teams, he provided breakdowns of games for coaches, players and scouts as well as opponent video for the use in scouting reports. In addition, he compiled statistical information and wrote personnel reports on opponents.

He earned both of his degrees from Ball State, graduating in May of 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Administration with a minor in Foundations of Management. A year later, he received his master's degree in Physical Education with an emphasis on Sport Administration. While at Ball State, Coach Cleverly worked with the athletic department and sport administration programs, and he is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

A native of Auburn, Indiana, Coach Cleverly graduated from DeKalb High School in 2000. He is married to the former Courtney Oliver and they are the proud parents of two sons; Dawson and Cooper.
