Yaroslav Ivanov enters his third season as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's fencing programs.
Ivanov fenced from 2010 to 2015 for the Titans and was a two-time Team MVP. He racked up 188 victories in foil and epee for Detroit Mercy during his four-year career.
He was the Newcomer of the Year in 2010-11 after posting a 47-30 record during his first season. He followed it up with 60 more bout wins during his sophomore campaign to rank second on the squad.
After a season studying abroad in Poland, Ivanov was the Team MVP in his final two seasons on the squad, posting a combined 81-36 record during his junior and senior campaigns.
Overall in his career, Ivanov had a 61-percent win rate and went 6-5 during his final NCAA Midwest Regional during the 2014-15 season.
He qualified for all four NCAA Midwest Regional Championships during his Titan career and placed as high as 10th in foil.
