The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team announced the addition of Caitlin Gaitley as an assistant coach in September of 2022.

"I'm excited to have Caitlin as our new assistant coach," said head coach Dwayne Hicks. "She brings a lot of offensive knowledge to the team. Plus, she was a high-level, dominant player when she played so she knows what it's like to play fast and play under pressure. This year is going to be fun with her leading the offense."

Gaitley has served as an assistant coach in high school and with Triumph Lacrosse Club after a standout career in college at Albion.

She spent the last three years as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at Grosse Pointe North High School and was the head coach of the U-16 team at Triumph Lacrosse in 2017. She also gained coaching experience at the Xcelerate Nike Lacrosse Camp.

As a student-athlete, she was the winner of Albion's athletic achievement award in 2018. She helped Albion win the MIAA conference tournament championship in 2015 and a regular season title in 2016. She was a three-time First Team All-MIAA performer and was selected Albion's Offensive MVP as a junior and senior.

She finished her career second in school history with 202 points and second with 179 goals. Her 60 goals as a junior and senior tied for third in school history and were the most goals in the MIAA in 2017. As a senior, she also tallied a school-record 10 goals in a game at Olivet.

She graduated from Albion with a degree in Exercise Science in 2018.
