Jake Marmul

Jake Marmul joined the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse program as an assistant coach for the 2013-14 season.

Marmul is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (2011) earning bachelor’s degrees in psychology and sociology.  On the lacrosse field, he was a two-time Monogram Award winner at Notre Dame anchoring a men’s varsity lacrosse program that ranked in the top 20 in face-offs of Division I NCAA lacrosse.

“With the addition of Jake Marmul to our staff, we’re looking at him to lead the defensive unit and our goalies,” said UDM women’s lacrosse head coach Laura Maness who will begin her third year with the Titans in 2013-14. “He is going to be putting in different slide packages, man defenses, and zone defenses throughout this year and changing our man-down defense slightly as well.”

He served as the assistant coach for women’s varsity lacrosse at Notre Dame for the 2013 season filling the role of defensive coordinator. Under his guidance, he helped the team finish No. 3 in the NCAA in caused turnovers and in the top 20 in several other defensive categories.

In other roles for the team at Notre Dame, he was the travel coordinator, managed all aspects of social media for the team, and he was responsible for managing the upgrade of office technology for women’s lacrosse.

Prior to working with Notre Dame, he was a high school assistant coach for the men’s varsity lacrosse programs at Catholic Central HS in Novi, Mich. and St. Joseph’s HS in South Bend, Ind.

He is no stranger to the University of Detroit Mercy campus organizing and coaching at the UDM Faceoff Camp in June 2012. He has also worked other lacrosse camps at Notre Dame and at Catholic Central.

“He is drawing on the experience that he had as an assistant at Notre Dame. He was their defensive coordinator and they had a really good year last year so we’re looking at him to bring in some of those elements to our program. Also, there were rule changes this past year that will make our game more similar to the men’s lacrosse game.”
