Lindsay Darling was announced as an assistant coach for the women's lacrosse program in early February 2021. Darling was a former standout player and assistant coach for the club lacrosse team at Oakland University.
Darling, who has served as a volunteer assistant for the Titans since head coach Dwayne Hicks took over reigns of the program, is also a travel coach with the Detroit Lacrosse Club, having coached there since 2015.
"Having Lindsay join our staff is going to be a great thing for this program," Hicks said. "She brings a level of intensity that I hope players will learn to appreciate and emulate. She knows the game and certainly understands what it takes to play at a high level. Plus, not only can she talk the talk, but when she has to, she can walk the walk.
"As a staff, our main focus will be on improving fundamentals, appreciating the opportunity to compete and getting our players through the full season. Our theme for the year is: Adjust...we must!"
While a player at Oakland, Darling was the 2016 recipient of the National Player of the Year -- the
Amtahcha Award -- and was also three-time First Team Division II All-American (2014-16). She was named the 2015 Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (
WCLA) Division II Most Outstanding Player (Midfield) and was the 2015 and 2016
WCLA Player of the Year, amongst other accolades. Darling was the Oakland University Club Sport Female Athlete of the Year in 2015.
"Coaching at the Division 1 level has always been a dream of mine and I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity," Darling said. "Coach Hicks has been a role model for me since I played at Oakland University. I am excited that I get the chance to work side by side with him to create a top-notch program. For me, lacrosse is all about the fundamentals. Once mastered, the possibilities are endless. I look forward to helping our student athletes push their lacrosse skills to new limits and watching them reach their fullest potential both on the field and in the classroom."
She helped lead Oakland to two Division II club lacrosse championships in 2014 and 2016 and was a prolific goal scorer during her time, amassing 239 goals and 292 total points during her time with Oakland, adding 130 career draw controls across three seasons. She holds records for most goals scored (12) and most total points (13) in a National Tournament game.
Darling played high school lacrosse locally for Marian High School where she served as one of their captains for her senior season. She's a 2016 graduate of Oakland University with a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design.
