The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team has announced that Annie Birney will serve as the team's new graduate assistant in September of 2020. She enters her second season with the program in 2021-22.
"Annie is a former collegiate player in this league with her time at Oakland and that experience will help our team," said head coach Steve Shelton. "She is a high character person who will help both the coaching staff and the team."
She was a member of the Oakland women's soccer team from 2013-2015 and helped the team to three-post season appearances, including a Horizon League title and NCAA appearance in 2015.
Birney, formerly Quiroga, prepped at Allen Park High School and holds the state record for most assists in a season with 41.
She graduated from Oakland with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2018 and is enrolled in the Specialist in School Psychology program at Detroit Mercy.
She recently married former Titan men's lacrosse standout Mike Birney in the summer of 2020.
