Jamie Huff

Jamie Huff finished his 18th season on the sidelines for Detroit Mercy in 2018. A veteran of almost two decades of coaching soccer, Huff assisted former head coach Mike Lupenec with on-field coaching, practice and game strategy, recruiting, travel and every-day office administration.

On May 13, 2019, he was named interim head coach. 

Huff has been an integral part of the Titans’ success – including four straight trips to the Horizon League Championship games from 2003-06. 

Detroit Mercy has reached the Horizon League tournament semifinals 13 times with Huff on the staff and the league title match five years, winning the Horizon League tournament title in 2004 and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Huff graduate from Clinton Township’s Chippewa Valley High School, where he earned the U.S. Army High School prestigious MVP Award in 1988. Huff turned pro a year later in 1989, playing for several teams over the next 13 seasons, which included the Detroit Rockers of the NPSL, Detroit Wheels of the USISL, Lansing Locomotive of the PDL and the Grand Rapids Explosion of the PDL.

While an active player in the professional ranks, Huff joined the coaching ranks of the prestigious Vardar Soccer Club. Huff coached at Vardar for 28 years, just recently retiring from coaching the soccer club.

While with the Michigan-based club, Huff’s teams have captured numerous State Cup titles, a Regional championship and seven small-sided national crowns. In addition to his long-running stint with Vardar, Huff has also coached at the professional level. While still an active player, Huff coached the Detroit Wheels of the USISL and moved onto the Lansing Locomotive a year later. From 1999-01 he was on the staff of the Grand Rapids Explosion, retiring in 2001 to join head coach Mike Lupenec at the University of Detroit Mercy.

A native of Yale, Michigan, Huff is an avid golfer in his spare time. He has two daughters, Madison and Madalyn, and is married to Theresa Marie.
