Head coach Steve Shelton completed his coaching staff with the addition of Roberto Mazza as a volunteer assistant coach in 2019 and he will begin his second season with the red, white and blue in 2020.Â
Mazza is a former Division I head coach at Louisiana Monroe and Arkansas Pine Bluff and was also an assistant at Mississippi Valley State.
He is currently the Liverpool International Academy Windsor Site Director and also spent time with the Olympic Development Program in Arkansas.
He was the head coach at Louisiana Monroe from 2012-2016 and guided the Warhawks to their first Sun Belt Conference victory in three seasons in 2012. In the classroom, the team compiled a GPA over 3.0 in each season and was named an All-Academic Team by the NSCAA in all four years.
He coached the first-ever NSCAA All-South Region honoree in ULM history and under his tutelage, the Warhawks registered three of their top-five point scorers and their top two assist leaders in school history, including Karlea Fehr, the program's all-time leader in points, assists, shots and shots on goal. He also recruited the best goalkeeper in school history statistically as freshman Brooke-Lynn Scroggins tallied a 1.55 goals-against average in 2015, while the team posted a 1.25 goals against per game that season, best single-season mark in school history.
Prior to that, he was the head coach for five seasons at Arkansas Pine Bluff, completely turning around a program from a last-place team to a pair of regular season (2010, 2011) and conference championships (2009, 2011) and two NCAA Tournament appearances (2009, 2011). In his five seasons, UAPB recorded a 48-27-12.Â
The overall record of the program under Mazza's leadership was 50-38-6, and his teams set every school record during his leadership, while also being named an All-Academic squad by the NSCAA.Â
Mazza was twice named SWAC Coach of the Year, while his players earned a bevy of accolades in four Offensive Players of the Year, two Defensive Players of the Year, two Freshmen of the Year, a Goalie of the Year, 24 All-Conference performers, seven players on the All-Tournament Team and two tournament MVP's. A few of his players also led all NCAA DI student-athletes in a few statistical categories in total assists, assists per game, goals per game, points per game and save percentage.Â
He was an assistant coach for one season at Mississippi Valley State University in 2006 before receiving his first head coaching job. During that year at MVSU, he helped the team finish second and had five players named All-League.Â
He played at Tiffin University from 2002-05 and helped the program achieve NAIA top 25 status as well as finishing conference runner-up on three occasions. He was also a team captain and All-American Mid-East Conference.Â
He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a minor in E-Commerce from Tiffin in 2006.Â
Mazza holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, a USSF National Youth License and a USSF National D License.Â
