University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer head coach Nicholas Deren added Ben Davis to his staff as a Goalkeeper Coach beginning in the 2012 season.
“Ben brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the goalkeeper position. Formerly a collegiate Division I, and professional player in Europe, that experience will be invaluable to our goalkeepers,” said Deren. “I think our guys will benefit and be able to relate to someone who has been in the trenches,” said Deren.
Davis is a former goalkeeper who attended Northern Illinois University before transferring to Central Connecticut State. He then went on to play professionally with FC Petrolul Ploiesti in Romania for one season.
He worked as an assistant at Schoolcraft College for three seasons starting in 2009 working with three straight All-America goalkeepers. The first year he helped the squad to a third place national finish. 2010 and 2011 saw his team accumulate a 17-4-1 overall record reaching the Championship Match of the NJCAA Region XII Tournament. Last season, Schoolcraft went a perfect 22-0 mark on the season to capture the NJCAA Region XII Tournament Championship. Davis also currently works with the goalkeepers at the Michigan Rush club team.
He holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) “D” license in coaching as well as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Goalkeeper license.
Davis is a local product having attended Canton High School in nearby Plymouth. He earned a bachelor's degree from Wayne State in kinesiology and will secondly provide Titans with further knowledge of exercise science helping with the team's turnaround time in between matches.
Currently, he is a graduate student at Wayne State studying kinesiology and specializing in sports psychology and motor performance.
Davis will also bring a strong hand to the Titans having spent time in the U.S. army from 2003-09.
