Walther begins his second year in 2012-13 with the Detroit track and field team as a graduate assistant coach. In 2010-11, he was an assistant coach with the Northville High School team helping with sprints and jumps.
He is a two-time German junior champion in the triple jump and also added multiple top-three finishes in the long jump and triple jump at national competitions.
A native of Erfurt, Germany, he came to the United States in 2007 to attend Eastern Michigan and be part of the track and field team. While at Eastern, he captured the MAC long jump title in 2009 becoming just the second athlete in school history to achieve that mark. In that 2009 season, he took home first-team All-MAC honors for the first time in his career and was also named to the indoor Academic All-MAC squad.
During his time at Eastern he also garnered multiple academic honors capturing Academic All-American third team honors and Academic All-District IV by CoSIDA recognition. He was on four Academic All-MAC teams and was also named All-Academic by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association. In 2008, he won Eastern's "Student Athlete of the Year" award.
While at EMU, he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in International Business. Prior to the start of the 2011 school year, Walther enrolled in UDM's master's degree program in business turnaround management and is also working towards a forensic accounting certificate.
