Richard Alexander

Richard Alexander is in his third year as an assistant coach, with his primary duties with the Titan sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers, while also serving as the recruiting coordinator.

Alexander’s efforts can already be seen on the men’s side as junior Earnest Cleary was named the HL’s Newcomer of the Year as a freshman in 2007. Four of his athletes have won HL individual titles to move to NCAA Regional competeition in Amanda Smith (400mH-2008), Ryan Byrne (400mH-2008), Lesley Hanna (Indoor 400m-2009) and Cleary (Outdoor 100m-2009).

Alexander came to UDM from Fairleigh Dickinson where, as an assistant coach from 2005-07, he mentored a pair of NCAA Regional qualifiers, as well as two conference champions. He assisted in all facets of the program, specializing in the development of sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers.

He started his coaching career at Wagner College (2003-05) as a graduate assistant. At Wagner, Alexander coached the 2003 conference champion in both the indoor and outdoor high jump, a 2004 and 2005 IC4A qualifier in the indoor and outdoor high jump, four All-NEC performers and nine school record holders.

He graduated from Bucknell in 2003 after earning four varsity letters in track and field. A two-year team captain, he earned All-Patriot League honors and was runner-up in the 110 high hurdles in 2002. He also is the school record-holder in the 60 high hurdles and is in the top-ten all-time in 55 high hurdles, 110 high hurdles and 400 intermediate hurdles. 

Alexander and his wife, Monique, reside in Farmington Hills.
