Steven MacDonald '23

Steven MacDonald joined the University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics in September 2018 as an Athletic Communications Assistant. He spent the 2018-19 school year in that role helping with video production, among other roles, and has served as the ESPN+ and ESPN3 voice for several Titan sports, including men's and women's soccer and women's lacrosse since 2018. The 2022 softball season was MacDonald's first as broadcaster, while also serving as color analyst for men's lacrosse. 

MacDonald re-joined the department in August 2021 as the Athletic Communications graduate assistant and was responsible for the creation of audio and video content, play-by-play, and serve as the SID for a handful of Titans' sports. For 2023-24, he will be back as the voice of several Olympic sports. 

MacDonald has extensive experience as a play-by-play broadcaster on ESPN+ and BTN+. The Shelby Township, Michigan, native spent time his senior year at Rochester University calling the men's and women's basketball games on the Rochester Sports Network, calling four WHAC playoff games including the men's 2020-21 championship game. He is also in his third season calling high school football, where he called a MHSAA state playoff game during the 2020 season.

MacDonald attended Specs Howard School of Media Arts in Southfield, where he studied Broadcast Media Arts from 2017-2018. He then earned his bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from Rochester University in May 2021. MacDonald earned his Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program in 2023.
