Kaitlin Burgess

Kaitlin Burgess joined the University of Detroit Mercy strength and conditioning staff as the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning in the summer of 2022. 

Burgess spent the last year at Legacy Center Sports Complex as the lead Sports Performance Coach for the 12 Elite Club softball and 13 Elite volleyball teams. Part of her duties included creating combines and analyzing workout data as well as programming, leading workout sessions, testing of athletes, organizing and maintaining the weight room, and creating a schedule for daily/weekly/monthly use of the weight room facilities.

Prior to that, she spent two years with the University of Michigan as a research strength and conditioning coach. There she executed full body workouts for high school participants specific to soccer, incorporating neck strengthening exercises AND collecting data via hand-held dynamometer and also supervised the weight room facility for paralympic athletes.

She also gained valuable collegiate experience during that time volunteering with the Michigan Olympics sports strength and conditioning staff, which included men’s hockey, volleyball, track & field, lacrosse, soccer, gymnastics, tennis, baseball and softball. She had also worked previously as an intern at Michigan and was also part of the strength and conditioning staff at Bryant University, the University of Maine and Arkansas Tech University.

Burgess graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in 2016 with a double major in Exercise Science and Athletic Training and earned her Master of Science in strength and conditioning studies at Arkansas Tech in 2018. She is a certified strength and conditioning coach by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as a Level 1 USA weightlifting coach.
