The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team is back on campus for a Horizon League contest against Cleveland State on Oct. 17, with kick-off slated for 4 p.m.
Junior #Nick Dreshaj# (Clinton Twp., MI/Chippewa Valley) currently leads the Titans with six points and is tied with three other UDM players for a team-best two goals a piece.
Detroit (2-8-1, 1-3-1 HL) played in one game last week and came up short at Wright State on Oct. 11 as the Raiders claimed a 2-0 victory in Dayton, OH. The last win for the Titans was at Loyola, which was ranked 30th at the time, by a score of 2-1 on Sept. 26. In its first home conference match-up on Oct. 3, Detroit ended in a 1-1 tie with Milwaukee.
CSU (5-6-2, 3-2) comes into Detroit on a four-game winning streak, which includes a 3-2 triumph over Valparaiso on Oct. 11 in Ohio. The last loss for the Vikings came on Sept. 28 as they fell at Loyola by a score of 5-0. CSU junior Mitch Boyer leads his team in both goals and points with five and 10, respectively.
Detroit owns a 13-4-1 overall record against the Vikings, which includes a 4-0 shutout win against CSU on Oct. 26, 2007 in Cleveland, OH. Current senior Renato Susnja (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) scored two goals for the Titans that night, while current seniors Simon Zahra (New South Wales, Sydney, Australia/Evans) and #Brandon Powell# (Orion, MI/Lake Orion) each added a goal for the Titans. The win against the Vikings was one of eight shutouts for Detroit during the 2007 campaign.
Following their match-up with CSU, the Titans will take a break from Horizon League action as they travel to Western Michigan on Oct. 19 for a 1 p.m. match-up against the Broncos.
