Box Score (in pdf)

The Detroit Titans men's soccer team (4-12-2) closed out the 2008 regular season with a 3-3 tie against visiting Bowling Green (4-12-2) on Senior Day at Titan Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Prior to the start of the game, UDM's five seniors: Joe Hess (Canton, MI/Canton), Luke Paneccasio (Sydney, Australia/Christian Brother Lewisham), Brandon Powell (Orion, MI/Lake Orion), Renato Susnja (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) and Simon Zahra (New South Wales, Sydney, Australia/Evans) were honored for all of their hard work and dedication to the Titan men's soccer program.

In the 13th minute, Powell battled a defender to the right of the net and won the ball, which he then passed to freshman #Adam Philp# (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's Catholic). Philp played the ball off his chest, turned in midair and then fired a shot which hooked to the right corner of the net for the first goal of the game.

About three minutes later, Zahra took a corner kick from the left side and Susnja received the ball and headed it down past the goal line for his fourth goal of the season.

In the 51st minute, Susnja took a shot, which was saved by BGSU senior netminder Brent Petkus, but Powell got the rebound and watched it sail past Petkus to put the Titans ahead, 3-0.

At the 64:32 mark, BGSU freshman Byard Ebling sent the ball in, which made its way into a crowd in front of the net. The ball then rebounded out to junior Chuko Evwaraye, who was able to put the ball into the left hand side of the net.

About six minutes later, Falcon freshman Colin Armstrong sent the ball in from the left side, which resulted in a scramble at the goal line. Bowling Green sophomore Garrett Bireline was unmarked on the right hand side and was able to score the Falcons' second goal of the day.

The game-tying goal came at the 82:55 mark after Armstrong fed a pass to Evwaraye, who was on the left side at about the 25-yard line. Evwaraye took a hard shot, which hooked into the top right corner or the net to knot the game at three.

Paneccasio started the game in net for the Titans and tallied two saves, while freshman Paul Graf (Dearborn Heights, MI/Divine Child) allowed three goals and collected two saves in 45 minutes of play. UDM junior #Bryan Kloss# (Fraser, MI/Bishop Foley Catholic) was in goal for both overtime sessions and tallied one save. Petkus saw action in the net the entire contest for the Falcons and tallied seven saves, while allowing three Detroit goals.

Detroit outshot the Falcons, 29-16, while BGSU had a slight advantage on corker kicks, 6-4.

The Titans, a No. 9 seed, will return to action when they face #4 Green Bay in Wisconsin in the first round of the Horizon League Championship on Nov. 6 at 8 p.m.
