Wayne State Rallies To Down Titans, 64-52

Box Score

Visiting Wayne State survived a six-point second half deficit and rallied for a 64-52 exhibition victory over the Detroit Titans on Thursday night at Calihan Hall, spoiling new coach Autumn Rademacher's first appearance at the head of the UDM bench.

The Warriors trailed 48-42 with 7:50 left before responding with 10 straight points, grabbing a lead they would never relinquish. The final margin was their largest of the evening. Guard Jasmine McCall led the Warriors with a game-high 19 points, while Joy Nash (15) and Lindsey West (10) also scored in double figures.

Freshman forward Yar Shayok paced the Titans with 12 points, while guard Zemora Davis contributed a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds.

To open the game, the Titans used a pair of buckets by Shayok to ignite an early nine-point lead at 15-6 after just 6:31 had elapsed, but the Warriors quickly made a comeback. They hit five of their last eight three-point attempts of the half and held Detroit to only one basket in the final six minutes, taking a 29-27 lead into intermission.

UDM came from behind early in the second half, establishing a six-point edge on the heels of a 7-0 run of their own. Wayne State responded quickly, however, as McCall scored seven of the Warriors' 10 points in an interrupted run.

The Titans shot .373 (22-for-59) from the field while holding WSU to .368 (21-for-57), and also maintained a 44-32 rebounding lead. Detroit only hit seven of its 16 free throw attempts, however, while WSU was 14-for-17, including 13-for-14 in the second half. Detroit had 16 turnovers and the visitors were charged with 12.

The Titans return to action on Sunday afternoon with a pre-season contest against Saginaw Valley State. Game time in Calihan Hall at 2:00 p.m.
