Detroit Readies For Match-Up With Bowling Green

Gametracker

After a brief two game conference swing, the UDM men's basketball team will now play four straight games against non-conference foes, beginning with a trip to Bowling Green on Sunday, Dec. 14. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. The game is the result of last year's BracketBusters match-up that saw BGSU claim an 81-65 victory in Detroit.

Matt Dery, “The Voice of the Titans”, will have the call live from Anderson Arena on WDFN-AM 1130. Fans can also catch the action with a live stats feed through CSTV's gametracker.

Detroit has not played since last Saturday's 57-46 setback at Green Bay as the Titan student-athletes tended to finals on the week. UDM enters the contest at 2-5 with one of those victories over a Mid-American Conference opponent in Eastern Michigan.

Bowling Green is 3-4 on the year, but the Falcons are coming off three straight road losses. Like the Titans, the Falcons have played more road contests then home by a wide margin, six road games compared to just one home match.

Four Falcons are in double figures in scoring, led by the senior trio of Nate Miller, Brian Moten and Darryl Clements. Miller is tallying 12.8 a night to go with a team high 6.8 rebounds per game, while Moten is netting 12.4 ppg. Clements is averaging 12.1 ppg., and 4.7 rpg.

Sophomore Joe Jakubowski, who scored 17 points against the Titans a year ago, is also in double figures with 11.1 markers per game.

DETROIT VS BOWLING GREEN
This will be the 34th meeting between Detroit and Bowling Green, despite the fact that the campus are only 90 miles from each other. Detroit leads the overall series 21-12, but BGSU has taken four of the last five match-ups. UDM is 7-9 on the road against the Falcons, with its last win coming in 1997, 73-52.

AGAINST THE MAC
The Titans own an overall record of 165-102 (.618) record against current teams from the MAC, and are 1-1 against the conference this season. UDM fell at Western Michigan, 71-62, and downed Eastern Michigan, 62-47.

MCCALLUM AND THE MAC
Titan head coach Ray McCallum is 84-53 all-time against the Mid-American Conference, including an 8-4 ledger against Bowling Green.

TRYL'S BIG DAY
Senior guard Tryl Hartfield certainly has fond memories of Bowling Green. The walk-on netted a career-high 11 points verses the Falcons last year, including hitting two 3-pointers.

KEELING AMONG HL LEADERS
Junior Xavier Keeling is currently 12th in the Horizon League in scoring (12.4), fourth in rebounding (6.6) and eighth in field goal percentage (.483).

TITANS GETTING IN THE PAINT
The Titans scored have s cored 76 points in the paint in their last two games doubling both Green bays (28-14) and Milwaukee (48-24) in the post. In fact, 70-percent of Detroit's scoring in the last two games has come from down low with 76 of the Titans 108 total points.

WOODY DISHING OUT HELPERS
According to the latest Horizon League stats, released on Friday, Dec. 12, junior guard Woody Payne is fourth in the conference with 3.9 assists per game and fifth in the league with a 1.7 assists-to-turnover ratio.

NO QUIT IN THIS TEAM
Despite the early season struggles, the Detroit Titans men's basketball team has never given up in a game and always seems to make a key run in the second half. In its last three games, UDM is 37-of-69 (54%) from the field in the second period.
