Mulroy Hits Career-High 22 Points to Help Lift Detroit to Victory

Box Score (in pdf)

Behind a career-high 22 point effort from junior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian), Detroit claimed a 60-54 victory over Morehead State at Calihan Hall Wednesday evening. The Titans improve to 3-6 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 7-3 overall.

With :00.3 remaining in the first half, junior Mulroy was fouled as she attempted one from beyond the arc and ended up making all three at the line to pull Detroit within four (30-26) at the break.

Neither team scored in the first four minutes of the second stanza, but the scoring drought was snapped by UDM senior Zemora Davis (Detroit, MI/Community) who netted a 2-pointer at 15:56. Detroit freshman Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) knotted the score at 34 about three and a half minutes later with a 2-pointer in the paint and was fouled on the play, but was unable to push the Titans ahead of the Eagles.

Mulroy, who led all scorers with her 22 points, sank one from long range at 12:02 to give Detroit the lead and the Titans would not look back the rest of the contest. UDM took a nine point lead at 8:36 after Jones dished out one of her five assists on the night to senior Sandi Brown (Toledo, OH/Start), who then netted a jumper to put the score at 36-45.

With just over three minutes left, Mulroy hit her fifth trey of the night to tie her personal best, which gave Detroit its largest advantage of the contest, 53-43. After Mulroy made two at the charity stripe at 2:20, MSU junior Tiffanie Stephens hit a 3-pointer to pull the Eagles within six (55-49), which was the closest they could get to Detroit the rest of the contest.

Brown scored a team second-best 11 points and added seven rebounds, while redshirt freshman Talicia Washington (Auburn Hills, MI/Avondale) pulled down a team-high nine caroms and tallied nine points for the Titans.

Three Eagles scored in double figures as sophomore Chynna Bozeman, who scored 27 points the last two games, ended with a team-high 15 points for MSU. Stephens added 13, while junior Tiffany Hamilton scored 11 points on the night.

Detroit shot 36 percent (20-of-55), while the Eagles had a 19-of-66 showing from the field (29 percent). The Titans edged MSU on assists, 15-14, as well as blocks, 5-4, with Brown and Washington each collecting two on the night.

The Titans return to the road for their next four games, starting with a match-up at Eastern Michigan on Dec. 20 at 2 p.m.
