Men's Lacrosse Signs 15 For 2010

Detroit Titans head men's lacrosse coach Matt Holtz has announced the signings of 15 student-athletes to play at the University of Detroit Mercy beginning with the 2010 season. 

"We couldn't be more pleased with our recruiting class,” said Holtz. “We were able to add talent and depth at every position. This class will be a big part of moving us in the right direction as we were able to sign many of the best players in the midwest and from all over North America." 

Joining the Titans next year are: Brian Carr (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall), Tyler Corcoran (South Lyon, MI/South Lyon), Brandon Davenport (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI/North), John Dwyer (Novi, MI/Detroit Catholic Central), Mike Fields (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake), Jordan Houtby (St. Catharines, ON/ Holy Cross Secondary), Andrew Khalil (Macomb, MI/De La Salle), Anthony Levell (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto), Joel Matthews (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross), Jake McCallen (Plymouth, IN/Plymouth), Nathan Meyer (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer), Wes Steen (Columbus, OH/ Olentangy Liberty), Tyler Staruch (Brighton, MI/Brighton), Joshua Summers (Schaumburg, IL/James B. Conant) and Aaron Taylor (Columbus, OH/ Dublin Scioto). 

Brian Carr * M * 5-8 * 165 * Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall
A three year letterwinner in high school, Carr is also a four-year member of University Lacrosse club team, leading his team in points in 2007 and groundballs and face-off winning percentage in 2007 and 2008. He led his team to the championship of the Empire Express Tournament and a semi-finals appearance in the Broadneck All-Star and MVP Tournament. 

Tyler Corcoran * A/M * 5-9 * 176 * South Lyon, MI/South Lyon
A gifted offensive player, Corcoran has 53 goals and 55 assists in his varsity career as well as winning close to 80-percent of his faceoffs as a sophomore and junior.  He was named All-KVC in his last two years and added All-Area accolades as a junior. He was also selected to all-star games at Top Star lacrosse camp, Notre Dame lacrosse camp, and the Denver team camp.

Brandon Davenport * M * 5-10 * 165 * Grosse Pointe Woods, MI/North
A three-year starter who began his high school career as the only underclassman on the varsity squad, Davenport was named Second Team All-State as a sophomore and First Team All-State as a junior. He has 76 goals and 75 assists in three years and was the main face-off man for the Norsemen, winning a school record 71 percent (97 won) as a sophomore and then breaking that mark with an 84 percent tally (141 won) as a junior.

John Dwyer * D * 6-2 * 185 * Novi, MI/Detroit Catholic Central
Dwyer has enjoyed a tremendous high school career as a fierce defenseman, helping Detroit Catholic Central to a state championship appearance as a sophomore and a district title as a junior.

Mike Fields * M * 6-0 * 175 * Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake 
Fields is an all-around athlete, lettering in lacrosse and football for Wilde Lake. As a junior, he was a team captain leading the team in total points, while finishing first in assists and second in goals. After the season, he was named Honorable Mention All-County. He was also selected to play on the Howard Elite club team.

Jordan Houtby * D/LSM * 6-1 * 175 * St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross Secondary
Lettered for four years at Holy Cross Secondary School, the No. 1-ranked field lacrosse program in Canada. Houtby led his team to a regional championship in 2007 and 2008 as well as a third-place finish at the Ontario Federation of Secondary Athletic Association (OFSAA) Championships. Recently, he helped Ontario capture the 2008 adidas Brogden Lacrosse Cup scoring two goals in the championship game.

Andrew Khalil * D  * 5-9 * 180 * Macomb, MI/De La Salle
A starter on defense for the Pilots who will serve as a team captain for the upcoming season, Khalil garnered a number of accolades and awards as a junior including being named All-Region as well as the recipient of the Unsung Hero Award. He was also selected for the Dixie-150 All-Star Lacrosse Team 2008, the Champ Camp and the Ohio State All-Star Lacrosse Team.

Anthony Levell * G * 5-10 * 195 * Columbus, OH/ Dublin Scioto
A three-year starter in goal, Levell joins teammate Aaron Taylor as Titan signees from Dublin Scioto HS in Columbus, OH. He has already tallied over 750 career saves and owns the school record for most saves in a game (23) and season (285 as a sophomore). A three-time All-Region and All-Midwest performer and a two-time All-OCC award winner, Levell is coming off a junior campaign that led him to be named Ohio Goalie of the Year

Joel Matthews * MF * 6-3 * 185 * St. Catharines, ON/ Holy Cross Secondary
A teammate of fellow Detroit signee Jordan Houtby, Matthews was a four-year starter for the Raiders. He helped the team to two regional championships and a Bronze Medal at the Ontario Federation of Secondary Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Championships. He also helped Ontario the 2008 adidas Brogden Lacrosse Cup scoring three goals against Team Rochester  in the title game.

Jake McCallen * D * 6-0 * 200 * Plymouth, IN/Plymouth
One of the top defensemen in the state of Indiana, McCallen earned Second-Team All-State accolades as a junior after picking up 54 groundballs for the Indians. He is also a two-time Honorable Mention Indiana Catholic Conference honoree and will serve as a team captain for his senior season.

Nathan Meyer * A * 6-0 * 175 * Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer
A proven goal scorer, Meyer registered 74 goals and 24 assists as a junior, earning First-Team All-State honors while leading Pioneer to its first-ever regional championship. As a sophomore, he was a Second-Team All-State performer, ending the year with 34 goals, 25 assists and 54 takeaways.

Wes Steen * A * 5-11 * 185 * Columbus, OH/ Olentangy Liberty
A four-year letterwinner and a two-year captain, Steen was named a first-team All-OCC performer and a second-team All-Region honoree in 2008. He helped the Patriots to a Division II state runner-up finish as a sophomore as well as a 2006 Regional Championship and two Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) titles. For his career, he's tallied 64 goals, 23 assists and 92 groundballs.

Tyler Staruch * A * 6-3 * 215 * Brighton, MI/ Brighton
Entering his fourth year on the lacrosse team at Brighton, Staruch has scored 41 goals in his career and has handed out 47 assists. He was tabbed an All-Conference standout in all three years on the team as well as All-Area as a sophomore and junior.

Joshua Summers * M * 6-4 * 200 * Schaumburg, IL/ James B. Conant
A 2008 Adidas All-American, Summers has already totaled 102 points, on 69 goals and 33 assists, in just 33 career high school games. He led his team to the state championship as a sophomore. He represented the USA on the Select Men's Lacrosse team that participated in the Prague Cup held in the Czech Republic and was invited to try out for England's U-19 team in 2007.

Aaron Taylor * A * 5-10 * 170 * Columbus, OH/ Dublin Scioto
Named second-team All-Region as a sophomore after leading his team in scoring with 33 goals and 22 assists. Played club lacrosse for the Midwest All-Stars team, leading his squad to the Rutgers Tournament Championship, bringing home MVP honors in the process.
